We’re so excited to announce that Unscene Suffolk have been awarded funding from The Arts Council, so workshops will resume this Autumn. What’s even more exciting is that they will take place in person! There will of course be various measures in place to keep everyone safe during these still uncertain times, but the group are excited to bring back some normality to our weekly sessions.
As the drama and singing workshops start up again, we would like to invite volunteers to get in touch. Volunteers are needed to assist visually impaired participants to attend their drama and singing workshops which take place on Monday (singing) or Thursday (drama) afternoons at the New Wolsey theatre and Gallery Studio in central Ipswich. The singing workshops are very keen to hear from drivers who are based in the Stowmarket/Bury/Sudbury areas.
Duties will include: Walking with participants to and from public transport before and after workshops. Assisting participants to find their way around the space during workshops. Reading scripts or lyrics, and finding props etc. Joining in with activities in order to encourage participants and, in singing workshops, helping them to learn lyrics.

Volunteering with Unscene Suffolk has opened a whole new world for me. The group are friendly and fun people who have always made me welcome. I had no experience of theatre work and it has been so interesting learning what goes into creating and staging a play. I’m so glad that I got involved.

This is a great opportunity to learn about how to support visually impaired people and promote independence and inclusion, and Sighted Guide training can also be arranged. Volunteers don’t need to be available for both singing and drama workshops, but should be able to commit to one of the sessions on a fairly regular basis.
The beginning of a new term is also a great time for new members to join us. The workshops are lots of fun and very sociable. They are led by professional creatives and are fully accessible. But don’t take our word for it, come along for a taster session or two to experience it for yourself.
