We are looking for a new trustee to join our current board of trustees (5 trustees) as a secretary. Our current secretary is taking on another role on the board, so she will be available to ensure a smooth handover.

We are recruiting a voluntary position to join our Board of Trustees. A small, local charity, providing singing and music opportunities for visually impaired adults in Ipswich and the surrounding areas.

Job Description
- To ensure that committee meetings are properly administered.
- To ensure other meetings, such as the AGM, and events are properly administered.
- Checks for new trustees, staff and volunteers, including DBS checks.
- Assist the board with arranging inductions and training.
- Oversight of the review and update of the charity policies, with board approval.
Qualities
- To be organised and methodical
- Able to take good minutes.
- Able to keep accurate records.
- Good communication skills to liaise with local organisations and other board members.
An interest in singing and music could be useful, but is not essential for this role.
Hours/Time commitment
The hours are quite flexible. Face to face board meetings are usually held in Ipswich at least twice a year. Recently we have been holding board meetings during the day as that is more convenient for the current trustees. Generally, the AGM has been held online. The workload varies throughout the year. Around the time of the AGM and board meetings you may need to do three hours a week but at other times when you are just checking/responding to emails you may only do half an hour a week or less. The policies take time to review but you can spread the workload over several months, if need be. (NB: The policies are being reviewed now, so the next review will not be required until June 2027.)
