About

Unscene Suffolk is a participative arts organisation and community theatre company for adults with visual impairment based in Suffolk, UK.

“[Unscene Suffolk] is a welcome and necessary addition to the local theatrical landscape and its future projects should be watched with interest” InSuffolk review of ‘Fossils’

The following video features interviews with Jenni Elbourne, founder of Unscene Suffolk, and drama group member Pam Rivers, who talks about how coming to the group helped her after losing her husband.

Unscene Suffolk was founded in February 2013 by workshop leader Jenni Halton, with support from the New Wolsey Theatre and Sensing Change. The company has produced eight productions to date including site-specific and touring shows, and an audio drama. More information, including documentary films and evaluation reports, can be found on the ‘projects archive’ page.

Our work to date has been funded by Arts Council England, Suffolk Community Foundation, the Henry Smith Charity and the Big Lottery as well as a number of smaller grants and donations. In 2015 we were part of the Wolsey Theatre’s Moving Stories project alongside Pacitti Company and DanceEast, funded by Esmee Fairbairn.

Caroline Roberts took over leading the drama group in 2019 and worked with the group until they completed their last production Finding Ever After in June 2022.  Caroline wrote, directed and ended up taking a small part in the production too!  For the first time the singing group collaborated with the drama group on this production, providing vocal support.
